What is food ordering kiosk software?
Food ordering kiosk software is the application a restaurant guest uses to build, customise and pay for an order on a touch screen, without a cashier taking it down. It presents the menu with photographs and prices, handles the choices that make food orders complicated, sizes, toppings, sides, spice levels, "no onions", suggests additions at the right moment, takes payment by card, UPI or cash, and sends the finished order to the kitchen display and the point-of-sale system at the same instant. The guest receives an order number on a printed slip or on screen and collects at the counter, or the order is tagged for a table, a takeaway bag or a drive-through window. The cashier's role shrinks to handing over food and resolving the rare problem.
AtashiTech builds the software as a native Windows application for the kiosk hardware a restaurant chooses, integrated with the receipt printer, payment terminal, cash devices and kitchen displays around it. It is one of our packaged kiosk and self-service solutions; the kiosk enclosure itself comes from a hardware vendor, not from us.
The counter is the slowest part of the kitchen
A kitchen can plate an order faster than a cashier can take it during the lunch rush. The line at the till, not the grill, sets the outlet's throughput.
The old way
A guest reaches the counter, reads the board above the cashier's head, asks two questions, changes their mind once and orders. The cashier repeats the order back, keys it in, asks "anything else?" without looking up, and takes the card. Behind the guest, eight more people are reading the same board. In the kitchen the ticket arrives with "no onion" missing because it was said, not typed. The guest waits at the counter for the order number to be shouted, and the queue behind them stalls while it is.
Menu changes are a separate problem. A new combo means a reprinted board, a POS update and a briefing for every cashier, and for a week the price on the board and the price in the till disagree. Upselling depends on which cashier is on, allergen questions get answered from memory, and the outlet has no record of what guests looked at but did not buy.
The AtashiTech way
The guest orders at a kiosk at their own pace, sees a photograph of each item and every modifier as a button, and builds a combo without explaining it to anyone. The software makes the suggestion, a side with the burger, a larger size, a dessert at checkout, every time, in the same words. Payment is taken at the kiosk, the order goes straight to the kitchen display with the modifiers exactly as chosen, and the guest gets a number to watch on the collection screen. Two or three kiosks absorb the rush that one till could not.
Menus, prices, photographs and combos are managed once in a web portal and published to every kiosk in every outlet. Because the food ordering kiosk software runs as a Windows executable with a local copy of the menu, the outlet keeps taking orders when its internet connection fails.
How it works
Four steps for the guest, one message to the kitchen. The screens are built for a hungry person in a hurry, which means large buttons, few words and pictures of the food.
Choose the mode and browse
The guest picks dine-in, takeaway or, at a drive-through lane, the order is tagged to the lane. Categories and items appear with photographs, prices and dietary icons; items that are sold out in the kitchen are hidden automatically.
Customise and accept suggestions
Each item opens its modifiers: size, base, toppings, sides, sauces, spice level, exclusions. Required choices are enforced before the item can be added. At defined points the kiosk offers an add-on or an upgrade, once, with a picture and the price difference.
Pay
The guest scans a loyalty QR or enters a mobile number for points and coupons, then pays by tapping a card on the terminal, scanning a UPI QR on screen, or, where the unit has a cash acceptor, with notes and coins. The order is confirmed only after the payment is approved.
Kitchen and collection
The order appears on the kitchen display with modifiers as chosen, posts to the POS, and prints or displays an order number. Dine-in orders can carry a table tag; takeaway orders show on the collection screen when the kitchen marks them ready.
Core features
Built for quick-service and casual dining, and configured per brand: menu structure, modifier rules, suggestion points and payment methods are all settings.
Dine-in, takeaway and drive-through
One build serves all three service modes. Each mode can have its own menu subset, packaging charges and order-tagging rules, and a drive-through lane can run the same flow on a weatherproof unit.
Photographic menu with modifiers
Large images, combos, sizes and nested modifier groups with required and optional choices, minimum and maximum selections and price deltas per choice.
Upsell and cross-sell prompts
Suggestions are driven by rules you define per item and by what sells together, shown at the moments that work, after an item is added and before payment, and never more than once per point.
Kitchen display integration
Orders reach the kitchen display over the outlet's network the instant payment is approved, with modifiers laid out the way the line cook reads them. Kitchen can mark items sold out and the kiosk hides them.
Card, UPI and cash payment
Card terminals, dynamic UPI QR codes and, on units fitted for it, note and coin acceptors. Payment is approved before the order is sent, so the kitchen never cooks an unpaid order.
Loyalty and coupons
Points earned and redeemed through your loyalty platform, promo codes typed or scanned, and combo pricing applied automatically when the qualifying items are in the order.
Allergen and nutrition display
Dietary icons on every item, an allergen list one tap away, and nutrition values where the menu master holds them, in the languages the outlet serves.
Cloud menu management
A web portal where the brand team edits items, prices, photographs, combos and availability windows once and publishes to selected outlets or the whole chain, with a local cache on every kiosk.
Hardware and integrations
A restaurant kiosk has a short peripheral list and a long integration list. The software connects to the devices directly and to the outlet's other systems over the local network and your existing APIs.
Integration matrix
Restaurants rarely start from nothing; a POS, a loyalty scheme and a delivery-aggregator setup are usually already in place. The kiosk fits around them.

The collection and promotional screens come from our Android TV and digital signage practice, the kiosk application from kiosk application development, and the menu portal from our web application development team. Where food ordering kiosk software earns its place
The common factor is a menu with choices and a rush hour. The service mode and the payment mix change from one format to the next.
Quick-service restaurant chains
Burgers, pizza, fried chicken and coffee chains with standard menus and heavy modifier use. A bank of kiosks at the entrance, a collection screen and a kitchen display are the standard layout, and the brand team manages menus for all outlets from the portal.
Food courts and multi-brand counters
A single kiosk can present several brands' menus and route each part of the order to the right kitchen, with one payment. Operators of the court get consolidated sales without asking each tenant for a report.
Cafes and bakeries
Smaller menus, high customisation of drinks, and a counter that is also the pickup point. One or two kiosks take the order and the barista sees it on a screen, which removes the repeat-back at the till. Packaged goods can be sold through the same unit, or through our retail self-checkout kiosk where the shop side is larger than the cafe side.
Cinemas and entertainment venues
Concessions sell in a narrow window before a screening. Kiosks placed along the route to the screens take orders that are ready when the guest reaches the counter, and the same units can carry ticket collection.
Corporate cafeterias and campus canteens
Employees and students order against a card or an employee ID, often with subsidised pricing. The kiosk can identify the diner with the same credential used by our employee self-service kiosk, apply the entitlement, and settle to the canteen contractor.
Hospital and transit food outlets
Outlets in hospitals, airports and stations serve people who are tired, in a hurry and often not local. Multilingual screens and clear allergen information matter more here than upselling, and an all-hours outlet benefits from a unit that does not need a cashier on the night shift. Wayfinding and queue tokens in the same building are handled by our queue management kiosk.
Deployment, offline operation, AMC and remote management
Restaurants open early, close late and change their menus often. The way we deploy and support the kiosk follows from that.
Deployment
Each kiosk gets the food ordering kiosk software as a locked-down Windows application; the outlet gets the kitchen display and collection screen applications on its network; the brand gets the menu portal. The first menu is built in the portal with your photographs, modifier rules and suggestion points, and published to the pilot outlet. We prefer to open with kiosks alongside the till rather than instead of it, watch a full day's trade, adjust the suggestion points and modifier defaults, and then roll to further outlets from the same configuration.
Offline operation
The menu, prices, images and rules are cached on every kiosk, and the kitchen display sits on the same local network, so ordering and cooking continue when the outlet's internet connection drops. Cash and card payments keep working, cards through the terminal's own link; UPI needs the gateway and is hidden while it is unreachable. Completed orders and loyalty earnings queue locally and post to the POS and loyalty platform when the link returns.
Annual maintenance contract
An AMC through our consulting and AMC support service keeps the kiosks current with printer drivers, terminal SDK updates and Windows releases, adds payment methods as they appear, and gives outlet managers a support route. What the contract covers and how quickly issues are handled is agreed with each brand rather than fixed in a published plan.
Remote management
A chain wants to know, from head office, that every kiosk is up, has receipt paper, has the current menu and accepted this morning's price change. The kiosks report to our centralized kiosk management platform, which shows each unit's health, alerts on paper-out or terminal faults, and delivers menu and software updates to all outlets, so a launch happens on the same morning everywhere.
