Kiosk software for manufacturing plants

Gate inductions, contractor permits, shop-floor self-service and yard check-in, delivered as offline Windows applications wired to your turnstiles and HRMS.

A manufacturing safety kiosk stands at the plant gate and holds back anyone who has not completed the induction the site demands. That one control is where most plants start, and AtashiTech's catalogue extends outward from it: the safety training and compliance kiosk for the workforce, contractor induction and site access for third parties, an employee self-service kiosk on the shop floor and visitor management at the gatehouse. Logistics yards and ports are treated at the end of the journeys below, because their gate problems are the same problems with trucks added. AtashiTech supplies the software and the peripheral integration; the ruggedised enclosure is specified with your hardware vendor. Journeys

Where a kiosk earns its place in a plant

Six places where a manufacturing safety kiosk, or one of its siblings, replaces a register, a window or a guard with a clipboard.

Gate induction for every worker

Before a badge opens the turnstile, the worker watches the site induction in a chosen language, answers a randomised assessment drawn from the question bank and acknowledges the PPE required for their work area. A digitally signed certificate is printed and its expiry tracked, so a lapsed worker is stopped at the kiosk and sent back through the induction. This is the safety training kiosk.

Contractor onboarding and permit-to-work

Third-party crews arrive with trade licences and medical certificates that somebody has to check. The contractor induction kiosk captures the documents, runs the site-specific induction, issues a permit-to-work badge and records the subcontractor hierarchy, so the safety office knows who is inside under which principal contractor when an audit or an evacuation happens.

Shop-floor employee self-service

Operators and line supervisors do not carry laptops, and the HR window is usually on the far side of the plant. An ESS kiosk beside the canteen or the time office gives them payslips, leave applications, attendance corrections and shift schedules through a biometric login, with every transaction written back to the HRMS.

Gatehouse visitor management

Auditors, customers on a plant tour and vendor engineers all pass the same gate. The visitor management kiosk photographs them, captures an identity document, has them sign the site rules and prints a badge, while the host is notified by SMS and the security desk keeps a live list of who is inside the fence.

Refresher training and toolbox talks

Annual refreshers and the daily toolbox talk generate more paperwork than the original induction. The same training engine schedules refresher reminders and records acknowledgements, and where a fixed kiosk is impractical a supervisor can run the talk on a locked-down tablet built under the tablet app development service.

Logistics yards and ports

Driver check-in at a warehouse gate or a container terminal is a queue problem and an induction problem at the same time. A kiosk issues the driver a token, collects vehicle and consignment details, plays the short site-safety briefing and directs the truck to a dock when it is called. AtashiTech assembles this from the queue management solution and the contractor induction module; its fleet management software covers dispatch and tracking on the operator's side.

Requirements

What a manufacturing safety kiosk has to cope with

A plant gate is a harder environment than a lobby. These are the four things the software is asked to survive.

The gate cannot wait for the WAN

Plants sit at the end of long fibre runs or on cellular links, and shift change is the moment the connection is most likely to be saturated. The induction video, the question bank and the worker register are held on the kiosk, the turnstile decision is made locally, and the records synchronise to the central system once the link is back. Nobody stands at a closed gate because a server in another city is unreachable, and nobody gets in untrained because the server was unreachable either.

Peripherals, by category

  • Identification: proximity and RFID cards, fingerprint readers, face recognition cameras, and QR codes on printed certificates that security can verify by hand.
  • Gate control: Wiegand-based turnstile controllers, boom barriers and relay modules driven directly by the application on a pass result.
  • Output: badge printers for permits and certificates, receipt printers for driver tokens at yard gates.
  • Media: full-screen video playback with a separate audio track per language for the induction content.
  • Ergonomics: the software half of a dusty, gloved environment is large touch targets, high-contrast screens and no gesture that needs precision.

Systems the kiosk has to talk to

The HRMS holds the worker master and receives leave and attendance transactions. The ERP, whether that is SAP, Oracle or AtashiTech's own ERP software, owns contractors and purchase orders. A learning management system may already be the official record of training. The access control system decides which doors a badge opens, and at a logistics site the weighbridge and the yard management system need the vehicle details the driver typed in. Each of these has an API or a file interface, and each is a named integration in the scope rather than something discovered during commissioning.

Regulation, language and the audit trail

The Factories Act and the state factory rules oblige an occupier in India to train workers on the hazards of their work; an ISO 45001 management system expects that training to be recorded and current; and a permit-to-work regime expects to know who authorised what and when. The kiosk produces that evidence as a by-product of being used. A migrant workforce means induction in several languages with audio for workers who read with difficulty, and the evacuation roster has to be printable at the gatehouse even when the network is down. Longer pieces on gate-safety design are published on the AtashiTech blog.

Hardware & Deployment

Industrial enclosures, one application

Gatehouse pedestals, turnstile-mounted panels and wall units near the time office all run the same manufacturing safety kiosk application. AtashiTech does not build the enclosure; the plant specifies ingress protection, heat tolerance and vandal resistance with its hardware vendor, and the application is installed on the industrial Windows PC inside. Lockdown keeps the operating system out of reach, a watchdog brings the software back after a power cut, and updates are packaged as an installer the plant's IT team controls.

A group with several plants wants one place to push a revised induction video, see which gate kiosk has gone dark and get an alert when a badge printer runs out of ribbon. That is the job of the kiosk fleet management platform. Support after go-live, including content changes whenever the safety rules change, is delivered through an annual maintenance contract under software consulting and AMC support.

Engagement

What a plant engagement looks like

Scoped and quoted per site or per group. What moves the effort is the number of gates, the state of the access-control hardware and how much induction content already exists.

01

Define what inducted means

The safety officer, HR and security agree what a worker, a contractor and a visitor must each complete before the gate opens, by role and by area. That agreement becomes the workflow the kiosk enforces.

02

Gather content and hardware facts

Induction videos, question banks and PPE lists are collected or produced; the turnstiles, readers and printers at each gate are inventoried; screens are designed for gloves and glare by the UI/UX design team.

03

Build, wire the gate, pilot

The application is built under the kiosk application development service, connected to the HRMS test system and a real turnstile controller, and run at one gate through a full shift change with security standing by.

04

Extend across gates and plants

Remaining gates and sister plants follow, the fleet dashboard is switched on, and the AMC carries fixes, refreshed content and additional languages from then on.

Bring the induction to the gate

Frequently asked questions

It stands at the plant gate and holds back anyone who has not completed the induction the site demands. A worker watches the induction in a chosen language, answers an assessment drawn from a question bank and acknowledges the PPE for their work area, and only then does a badge open the turnstile. A signed certificate is printed and its expiry tracked.

Yes, and that is the reason it is built as a local Windows application. The induction video, the question bank and the worker register are held on the kiosk, the turnstile decision is taken locally, and records synchronise when the link returns. Nobody waits at a closed gate, and nobody gets in untrained, because a server elsewhere is unreachable.

Yes. The application drives Wiegand-based turnstile controllers, boom barriers and relay modules directly on a pass result, or hands the decision to the access-control system through its API where the plant prefers that. Access follows the completed induction rather than the other way round.

Third-party crews upload trade licences and medical certificates at the kiosk, complete the site-specific induction, and are issued a permit-to-work badge. The subcontractor hierarchy is recorded, so the safety office knows who is inside under which principal contractor, and licence and medical expiry raise alerts before somebody is stopped at the gate.

The HRMS holds the worker master and receives leave and attendance transactions; the ERP owns contractors and purchase orders, whether that is SAP, Oracle or AtashiTech's own ERP software. Where a learning management system is already the official record of training, the kiosk writes to it. Each of these is a named integration in the scope, not something discovered at commissioning.

Yes. Induction content plays full screen with a separate audio track per language, which matters for a migrant workforce and for workers who read with difficulty. Adding a language later is a content change handled under the maintenance contract rather than a rebuild.

The evidence is a by-product of the kiosk being used. Every induction, assessment result, PPE acknowledgement and permit is timestamped against a named person, and refreshers are scheduled and recorded the same way. An auditor asking who was trained, on what and when gets the answer from a report rather than from a stack of registers.

No. AtashiTech writes the software and integrates the peripherals. Ingress protection, heat tolerance and vandal resistance are specified with a hardware vendor, and the application is installed on the industrial Windows PC inside whatever enclosure the plant chooses.

The same training engine schedules refresher reminders and records acknowledgements, so an annual refresher is enforced at the gate exactly as the original induction was. Where a fixed kiosk is impractical, a supervisor can run a toolbox talk on a locked-down tablet and the record lands in the same place.

A central management platform pushes a revised induction video to every gate at once, shows which unit has gone dark, and raises an alert when a badge printer runs out of ribbon. Field technicians are limited to their own sites through role-based access, so a group can run the estate without visiting it.

Yes, because a driver check-in is a queue problem and an induction problem at once. The kiosk issues a token, collects vehicle and consignment details, plays the site safety briefing and directs the truck to a dock when it is called, assembled from the queue and contractor induction modules.

Per site or per group, and always individually; there is no rate card. What moves the effort is the number of gates, the state of the existing access-control hardware and how much induction content already exists. Describe your gates and your workforce mix on the contact page to start.
