SiteKiosk Alternative: Kiosk Platform vs Custom Kiosk Software

SiteKiosk's kiosk platform and AtashiTech's custom kiosk applications compared on journeys, hardware integration, offline behaviour, remote management and buying model, with a neutral verdict.

Vendor comparison

SiteKiosk alternative: a kiosk platform or custom kiosk software?

SiteKiosk and AtashiTech both put software on self-service terminals. They solve different halves of the problem, and the right choice depends on which half you are missing.

SiteKiosk, made by PROVISIO in Germany, is one of the longest-established kiosk software products. On its own website it describes SiteKiosk Online as an all-in-one kiosk and digital signage software for Windows and Android: it locks a public-facing device down, wipes customer data after each session, shows digital signage, and manages the fleet from a web dashboard, either in its cloud (hosted in the USA or the EU) or on your own server. It is sold as an annual subscription, with a free trial, and PROVISIO also offers customised projects on top of the platform.

AtashiTech is a software company that writes the kiosk application itself: the visitor check-in, the token, the payment, the induction or the order journey. We integrate the hardware inside the enclosure, connect the journey to your back-office systems, and monitor the estate from our own kiosk management platform under an annual maintenance contract. We do not manufacture enclosures. A note on where we stand: we are one of the two options compared here, so the verdict at the end names the cases where SiteKiosk is the better answer. Statements about SiteKiosk are taken from sitekiosk.com as of October 2026; check the current position with PROVISIO before you decide.

Side by side

SiteKiosk vs AtashiTech, criterion by criterion

Eight questions that decide most kiosk projects, with the practical position for each approach.

What you get

  • SiteKiosk: a licensed platform that secures the device and runs your web content, applications and signage.
  • AtashiTech: the self-service application itself, built for your journey, plus the integration and support around it.

Starting point

  • SiteKiosk: you already have the website, web app or content the kiosk should show.
  • AtashiTech: you have a process (check-in, payment, induction, ordering) and need software that runs it.

Remote management

  • SiteKiosk: dashboards, real-time alerts, software and content updates across many kiosks, predefined jobs, file transfer and remote access, per its website.
  • AtashiTech: health, peripheral and consumable alerts, remote restart, screenshots and logs, over-the-air updates, and an optional managed service under AMC.

Hardware and peripherals

  • SiteKiosk: device lockdown on Windows and Android; deeper integration with your systems and input devices is offered as a custom project.
  • AtashiTech: badge and receipt printers, QR scanners, ID and passport readers, fingerprint and face biometrics, card terminals, cash and coin acceptors, and gate control.

Offline behaviour

  • SiteKiosk: depends largely on the content or application you run inside it.
  • AtashiTech: our Windows kiosk applications hold their own local data and keep serving through a network outage, then reconcile.

Back-office integration

  • SiteKiosk: whatever your web application already connects to.
  • AtashiTech: written per project against your ERP, HRMS, access control or billing system, over APIs, webhooks or database links.

Buying model

  • SiteKiosk: annual subscription per the vendor's price list, with a free trial you can start yourself.
  • AtashiTech: a scoped and quoted project, then an annual maintenance contract. We do not publish prices.

Best fit

  • SiteKiosk: many devices that must show existing web content or signage securely, set up quickly.
  • AtashiTech: peripheral-heavy, offline-critical or system-integrated journeys where one team owns the whole outcome.
Two layers

Platform and application are different layers

Most kiosk comparisons go wrong by comparing a platform with an application as if they were the same kind of thing.

A self-service terminal has two software layers. The lower layer secures the device: it stops people leaving the kiosk screen, clears the previous user's data, restarts the machine when something hangs, and lets head office see and update the fleet. The upper layer is the journey the customer or employee actually completes: register a visitor and print a badge, issue a token, take a bill payment, run a safety induction with a test, take a food order and send it to the kitchen.

SiteKiosk is strongest at the lower layer, and it is a mature, widely used product there. If the upper layer already exists as a website or web application, a platform like SiteKiosk is often the fastest way to put it on a secure public terminal. AtashiTech works mainly at the upper layer: we write the journey, and we bring our own lockdown and management for the terminals we deliver. If the upper layer does not exist yet, a platform alone will not create it, and the real project is the application.

Fleet

Remote kiosk management compared

Remote management is where the two overlap most, and where buyers most often ask us for a comparison.

According to its website, SiteKiosk's remote management gives real-time visibility of each kiosk's status, alerts for critical events, monitoring of hardware components, usage and uptime statistics, simultaneous software and content updates across many kiosks, predefined jobs for installing applications and transferring files, and remote access. It is available as part of the cloud subscription or on a self-hosted server.

Our kiosk management platform covers the same ground for the terminals we build, with an agent that also reports the state of each peripheral: paper left in the printer, how full the cash box is, whether the card terminal answered. Alerts can open tickets in your service desk, and updates go to a pilot group before the whole estate. The difference is less about features than about scope: our platform is designed around applications we wrote, which is why it can see inside the journey and the peripherals, and under an annual maintenance contract our team can run it for you as a managed service.

Integration

Hardware integration and offline journeys

The questions that usually decide the project are what is bolted into the enclosure and what happens when the network drops.

A terminal that only shows information needs very little integration. A terminal that prints a visitor badge, reads a passport, takes a fingerprint, accepts cash or opens a turnstile needs software that talks to each of those devices through its vendor's SDK, reports when one fails, and recovers without a technician. That is the work our kiosk application development team does on every project, against the real units rather than simulators.

Offline behaviour follows the same logic. Our Windows kiosk applications keep the journey in the terminal, so a check-in, token or payment completes during an outage and reconciles when the link returns. With any platform that runs your web content, the offline behaviour is set by that content; ask how the journey behaves with the network cable pulled, whichever vendor you talk to.

Verdict

Which one to choose

A neutral reading of the criteria above.

Choose SiteKiosk when the content already exists and the job is to put it on many secure terminals quickly: a website or web application in public-access mode, a library or hotel internet terminal, interactive digital signage, or a mixed estate of Windows and Android devices where you want a self-service trial and a subscription.

Choose AtashiTech when the journey has to be built: visitor management with badge printing, queue tokens, bill payment with cash or card, contractor induction with a test and gate release, patient registration with document scanning, or food ordering into a kitchen display. It is also the better fit when the kiosk must complete transactions offline, write into your ERP or HRMS, and be supported by the same team that wrote it. Our related comparisons on buying vs building kiosk software and Windows vs Android kiosks cover the decisions that usually come next.

Frequently asked questions

No. AtashiTech is not affiliated with PROVISIO, the maker of SiteKiosk. We build our own kiosk applications and kiosk management platform, and this page compares the two approaches using information SiteKiosk publishes on its website.

SiteKiosk is a licensed platform that secures a device and runs your existing web content, applications and digital signage, with remote management. AtashiTech writes the self-service application itself, integrates the hardware in the enclosure and connects the journey to your back-office systems, with our own management platform and an annual maintenance contract.

When the content already exists and you need it on many secure terminals quickly: a website or web application in public-access mode, an internet terminal, or interactive digital signage, with a subscription and a free trial you can start yourself.

Yes, for the terminals we deliver. Our kiosk management platform monitors health and peripherals, raises alerts, restarts terminals, pulls screenshots and logs, and pushes software and content updates over the air. Under an annual maintenance contract our team can also run it for you as a managed service.

Only if the application for that journey already exists. A platform secures and manages the device; the journey itself, such as badge printing, token issue or cash acceptance, has to be built and integrated with the peripherals and your systems. That application is what AtashiTech builds.

Badge and receipt printers, barcode and QR scanners, ID-document and passport readers, fingerprint and face biometrics, card payment terminals, cash and coin acceptors, and gate or turnstile control, integrated against the real devices through their vendors' SDKs.

Our Windows kiosk applications hold their own local data, so check-ins, tokens and payments keep working during a network outage and reconcile with the server when the connection returns.

SiteKiosk is sold as an annual subscription under its own price list, so check current terms with PROVISIO. AtashiTech scopes and quotes each project and then supports it under an annual maintenance contract; we do not publish prices.
